Martin Energy Group Acquires Chomp to Expand Food Waste-to-Energy Solutions
3 min
Martin Energy Group, LLC, a full service power generation and EPC company focused on the RNG market, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Chomp, a manufacturer of containerized, modular anaerobic digestion systems. Together, the two companies will be able to service a broad range of the food waste to energy market.
Anaerobic digestion is an elegant, simple solution that transforms food and other organic waste into valuable resources by using naturally occurring microbes to break down organic matter. The process generates a versatile biogas that can be used to produce heat, hot water, or electricity, or can be upgraded to produce biomethane to offset fossil fuel consumption. Another output of the anaerobic digestion process is a nutrient-rich biofertilizer that can be used directly as a soil amendment or as a water replacement in water-challenged areas.
As regulations to divert organic waste from landfills become increasingly prevalent across North America, AD has been recognized by US EPA, the Department of Energy, and the State of California as a necessary and far superior alternative to landfills. AD is a powerful resource recovery tool for businesses or communities that want to manage their waste sustainably, save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Martin Energy Group has been building and servicing anaerobic digestion systems for over thirty years, working mainly on large-scale implementations with dairy farms, as that industry was the first to adopt anaerobic digestion technology in the United States. Chomp was founded ten years ago and specializes in pocket digesters that sit at the point of food waste generation.
The integration is expected to quickly benefit both companies:
● Martin Energy’s scaled manufacturing, remote monitoring technology and deep sales and policy expertise will enable Chomp to very quickly increase its capabilities.
● In return, Martin Energy will be able to offer customers a quick-to-deploy solution at the point of food waste generation, immediately reducing customer hauling and tipping costs.
“I am pleased to welcome Chomp to the Martin Energy Group family,” said Marcus Martin, CEO of Martin Energy Group. “Chomp’s founder, Jan Allen, has deep experience in anaerobic digestion and has been a champion of small digesters. We are looking forward to working with Jan, Tim Tiscornia, Chomp’s CEO, and the rest of the Chomp team and to adding modular digesters to our offerings.”
“The investment in Chomp by Martin Energy Group will enable Chomp to immediately and significantly expand our capabilities,” adds Chomp CEO Tim Tiscornia. We are thrilled to be able to leverage Martin’s expertise to help Chomp continue to grow, and we are excited to join a family of companies and a management team with a stellar reputation and work ethic.”
